 🌿 The Enemy – Summary (in English) Author: Pearl S. Buck Summary : “The Enemy” is a story set in Japan during World War II. It revolves around Dr. Sadao Hoki, a skilled Japanese surgeon, and his wife Hana. One night, a wounded American soldier, Tom, drifts to the shore near their house. Despite being an enemy soldier, Dr. Sadao decides to save his life, following his duty as a doctor. Hana, though frightened, helps him operate on the soldier. They take great risks because helping an American was considered treason during the war. The servants in their house leave in protest, fearing punishment. After the soldier recovers, Sadao fears he might be caught. He reports the situation to the General, who secretly promises to have the soldier killed to protect Sadao. But the General forgets due to his illness. Finally, Sadao helps the soldier escape safely by giving him food, a boat, and clothes.
